More Photos of ISLESI2017_ObjectiveLife-cycle engineering and sustainability are invariably the missions or goals in the design and construction of most civil infrastructure systems. The strategies to achieve these missions are the challenges of all engineers, but particularly of civil engineers where long-term sustainability is often essential.
The planned symposium is part of the activities in the Global Network Project of the Taiwan Tech awarded by the Ministry of Education of Taiwan under the leadership of Prof. Shi-Shuenn Chen as the principal investigator. This Symposium, to be held on November 9-11, 2017 at the Taiwan Tech, is intended to provide a forum for the discussion and exchange of information and strategies among engineers in practice, engineering researchers and educators, and promising graduate students. Through such exchanges, it is the hope of the organizers that the missions will continue to be pursued in the future. Much research and development have been accomplished and published by academic researchers in the fields of life-cycle engineering and sustainability; these include recent development of whole life performance, optimal design for life-cycle cost, and for sustainability of engineering systems. In order to further advance engineering, some of these research accomplishments need to be implemented in engineering practice. This requires special efforts on the part of the entire engineering profession, including the following:
The aims of the planned Symposium, therefore, are to emphasize emerging and current technology of life-cycle engineering and sustainability, and also to encourage wider implementation of the existing technology. Language and PublicationsAll the presentations will be in English.
Publication All the papers presented in the technical program will be published in a bound volume of the Symposium. The language of all the papers will be in English. Venue and ScheduleThe symposium will be held on the campus of the National Taiwan University of Science & Technology (Taiwan Tech), in Taipei, Taiwan. The tentative dates of the Symposium are 8-11 November 2017, with short courses on the 8-9th and registration on the 10th and conference on the 10-11th.
